Sales Velocity: rank-based, with no volume estimates

Last updated: 21 August 2026

Velocity reads movement in sales rank to compare products and spot momentum. It deliberately publishes no unit or revenue estimates from rank.

Sales Velocity watches how products move in the marketplace sales ranking: who climbs, who slides, and how fast. Rank movement is one of the most responsive public signals of demand, and it is excellent for comparing products and catching momentum early.

What it is not: a unit counter. The service measured the relationship between rank movements and actual sales volumes and found it too weak to publish volumes from rank. So velocity is used to classify and rank, never to display estimated units or revenue. Where a money figure exists in the service, it comes from an observed sales counter, not from rank.

Read the chapter as a radar: it points at products whose demand is changing, in either direction, before slower indicators move. The confirmation of what it points at lives in the other chapters.
