Market: the top of each shelf, and who holds it

Last updated: 28 September 2026

The products that lead each Amazon shelf you follow, ranked by Amazon, with who held their Buy Box, how they moved, and what shoppers say about each brand. No market share and no market value.

Market shows the top of each Amazon shelf you follow: the products Amazon publishes a monthly sales figure for, in the order Amazon ranks them. You can name every product on the list and open it, yours and your competitors’. The screen only shows the shelves where you sell; the others stay one click away in the shelf selector.

The rank is the weight

A product that nobody sees does not weigh as much as the leader, so nothing here is added up on a flat list. Products are ordered by Amazon’s own sales rank, read on a single day so that every position is comparable. Variants that share one rank are shown as one product. A product without a rank that day is shown without a position, never with an invented one. The rank follows sales: it is not the position in search results.

Who holds the Buy Box

For every product and every brand at the top of the shelf, a bar shows how much of the time Amazon held the Buy Box, a third party held it, or there was none. It is time held over the last 90 days observed, never sales. The article on who holds the Buy Box explains how it is read.

Product moves and brand reviews

Product moves compares each product’s rank today with its rank on the comparison date you choose: a month ago, the start of the year, or twelve months ago. New means we followed the shelf then and the product was not ranked. Not comparable yet means we did not follow that product or that shelf on that date: our coverage grew, which is not a move of the market. Brand reviews gives each brand its rating, weighted by review count, and the typical number of reviews per product.

What the screen will not tell you

There is no market share and no market value. Amazon publishes a sales figure only above a threshold and in brackets, so most products in a category carry none, and any total would rest on a guess about the rest. The purchases column is Amazon’s own badge: a bracket, not a sales count.

How often it changes

The shelf is published once a month, on the first day, and the screen writes the date its figures are as of. You can complete the list with products you compete with that Amazon keeps out of the top, from the products you already follow. Availability depends on your plan.
